As you've seen on here before, we have an inspiration board here in the studio that we change up every week. It's always a lot of fun to see what people bring to it because it's so varied and interesting. Plus it's just cool to see what inspires other people.
So, we're going to start sharing some of that inspiration with you!
A two man design studio based out of Seattle Washington. They have an impressive client list including: Virgin Mobile, EMI, Nickelodeon, SouthWest Airlines, Capitol Records, and more.
In 2004 I remember looking through an old Design Annual issue of CA (Communication Arts) and coming across a poster for Built To Spill & Wilco.
I thought they were both gorgeous, their color pallet rarely exceeds 3 colors, and their use of type, whether it's hand done or not, is so delicate. Just look at the type on the Wilco poster, it just makes me smile.
The main reason I love this studio is the fact that they work so heavily in the music industry. I am a music fan, and I am also a fan a great design. To this day they continue to inspire me in my current design work. I am lucky enough to design a few concert posters for a local venue here & there, I see these guys as one of the reasons that I fell in love with poster design.
Looking at their new work, the Books poster series has become a new favorite of mine.
The Books posters combine samples and field recordings with their own unique melodic creations. Each poster for the Books Philadelphia performance was printed on sheets of found paper culled from various old maps, blueprints, and foreign film one-sheets. No two are alike.
