Hi there, my name is Candice Reszko or Candy for short. I was born and raised in the crazy city of Las Vegas, NV and have always hated it. LOL! There has always been a yearning within me for the country type living but here I am - still in Las Vegas, going on 30 years now. My husband and I have been married for 7 years and we have two little ones whose birthdays we just celebrated. We have a son, Jadon, who is 4 years old and a daughter, Leilani, who is 2 years old.
We are a family of strong faith in God and try to always make Him the priority in our lives. There is nothing that we do not do without praying and asking for guidance because we firmly believe without God we can do nothing.
My upbringing was one of faith as well, with me being the odd ball of the pack of six. I was actually almost aborted because my mother had complications giving birth to my older sister. The doctors told her that if she tried to have any more children that not only would she die but the child would die too. I was that next child and sure enough they told her that she had to get rid of me. But she stood up in the middle of the abortion office, tore the papers in two, and told my dad that if God wanted us to die then we would die together and if He wanted us to live then we would live together. Every night my dad prayed for me and my mother. When it came time to deliver, my mother told me that it was like a bad stomach ache and that was the worst of the pain and that I came right out with simplest of ease. Then my baby sister came along. Amazing! So I have three older brothers, an older sister, and a younger sister. It was always busy and there was never a dull moment growing up.
I have always been interested in art, whether in song or writing of songs, pencil and paper, or paper itself such as in scrapbooking. I remember wanting to get into all sorts of careers like architecture, carpentry, animation, or illustration. If art was involved some how, some way, I was interested. But life has its way of telling you what the more important things are so for me it was starting a family. I still did portraits for awhile until I had my son and then it slowed down. Then I had my daughter and it stopped completely. I knew I needed a creative outlet so scrapbooking became just that. Before I knew it, scrapbooking became a passion and a big part of my life. It has been four years now into this awesome journey and I only hope and pray to continue to grow in it.
1. Do you have a nickname? If so, how did you get it?
Around the scrapbook community I am known as Kansas. Three years ago, my former pastor attempted to call my name and instead of Candice he called me Kansas. He thought that it fit me so well that he just started calling me that. I took a liking to it and have kept it ever since.
2. What is your scrap space at work/home like?
My scrap space is often quite busy looking and is never fully organized. I feel that if something is out of sight then it is definitely out of mind.
3. Tell us in as much detail as you can remember about how you first got into scrapbooking:
I first got into scrapbooking through a fundraiser that MADD was involved with. They called me up and said for every magazine I subscribed to a part of the proceeds would go to them. I didn't want just any magazine that I would toss aside. I wanted something that I would actually use. They mentioned Memory Makers Magazine so I subscribed to that one. I often wondered about scrapbooking and when my first issue came it was love at first sight! I finally found my creative outlet!
4. What is your favorite subject to scrap, and why?
In all honesty, I don't have a favorite subject to scrap but rather I scrap the pictures the speak to me. It can be any subject, but if the angle is not right or the color is off, or anything of the sort, I can't scrapbook it. It also depends on my mood.
5. Share a picture of one of your earlier layouts and one of your more recent layouts:
