Becky Williams made three simply adorable headbands with step-by-step photos to share with you wonderful readers today.
"I was asked to create a tutorial using American Crafts ribbon. The possibilities were absolutely endless with all the varieties of AC ribbon available and I decided that I’d make some hair accessories which, of course, my girls were thrilled about. And, because I have three girls I couldn’t make just one to show you. This project is relatively quick and simple to make and you can use whatever AC ribbon you might have on hand."
Materials needed:
-basic headbands
-assorted American Crafts ribbons/trim
-scissors
-strong adhesive (I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive)
-assorted embellishments to add to headband (buttons, brads, flowers, etc.)
-needle and thread
-felt or other fabric
Headband #1 Supplies: Pond City Park Ribbon (89392) – Ribbon, Frisbee (78038) - Details, Tenderness (78034) - Details
For this first headband, starting at one end of the headband, wrap the ribbon around securing it with liquid adhesive. I made sure to wrap it quite tightly so that there was no bunching up of the ribbon.
Once you’re finished wrapping the ribbon around, choose your embellishments. I went with two felt Details from the Love line and one from the City Park collection. I removed the top two layers of the Love flowers so that the other flower would sit flat on top. Layer the flowers and adhere them to the headband.
In order to keep the flower securely on the headband adhere a small piece of felt or ribbon to the back as shown.
Headband #2 Supplies: Black rosette ribbon (58182) – Ribbon, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Plastic Rose Brads (85522) – Elements
This second one is quite simple. All you have to do is add the brads along the trim and adhere it to the headband. I wrapped the ribbon around to the underside of the headband on each end and scrunched up the trim so that the purple from the headband wouldn’t show through.
Headband #3 Supplies: Duchess Dear Lizzy Enchanted Ribbon Card (89389) - Ribbon, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Fabric Brads (85520) - Elements, Coffee Ribbon Spool (58225)- Ribbon
For this last headband, wrap the base headband with your chosen ribbon as with the first one. Next, choose 24 inches of ribbon for making the flower. I chose this sheer brown ribbon. Using a needle and thread, do a running stitch (simply in and out) across the length of the ribbon and then pull the thread lightly to gather the ribbon and then tie it off.
Apply liquid adhesive to a piece of felt or other fabric and starting with the outer edge, adhere the ribbon to the fabric going in a clockwise direction until you get to the center of the flower.
Add a fabric brad to the center of the flower.
Adhere the flower to the headband and add a piece of felt to the back to help hold it in place as we did on the first headband.
Here they are, all three finished headbands!
I think you can tell by the smiles on their faces that my girls were pretty excited about these new headbands!
Simple, easy, quick, and most of all, CUTE! These ribbon headbands are sure to put a smile on any little girl's face.
Tomorrow we have another talented guest designer! See you then!
