HAPPY 4th of JULY to all our state-side friends! We hope you have a spectacular day filled with food, friends, family, and fireworks!
I'm excited to introduce our Summer Week Guest Designer - Heather Leopard!
Short bio: I'm a mommy to two adorable girls and a wonderful step-son with a hubby who supports my crafty obsessions. I'm lucky enough to work at home using my marketing background and passion for social media. I'm usually found in my office/craft room playing with papers, scissors, and embellies. My other obsessions include being a HUGE Rob Thomas fan as well as scuba diving all over the world (with sharks even).
How did you get started scrapbooking? My first recollection is making my first scrap in middle school, many eons ago. I had an old magnetic album and added little caption bubble stickers all over the photos. Life got busy during high school and college but I got back into it after my hubby and I married in 2002. Of course, the birth of our children just magnified my love for the hobby and I became obsessed with it a few years ago and now it’s just a part of my everyday life, in some form or fashion.
What is your favorite American Crafts product? Oh my, hard to choose but it’s got to be the Thickers. No, it’s the Remarks (have you seen how many stickers you get?) or maybe it’s the Bits… it’s hard to decide!
YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE, MY ONLY SUNSHINE. by Heather Leopard
I've been wanting to do this canvas for my daughter’s room and when I think of an ideal vacation, I think of the sun. This will be hanging in my daughter’s room so she can daydream of the beach and sunshiney days when she’s playing inside or if the skies are gray. Can you see the gray skies (Indigo Inspiration paper) behind the main portion of the sun?
Supplies: Sienna Spirit Paper (35672) – Sketchbook, Crimson Charm Paper (35674) – Sketchbook, Kristi’s Craft Paper (35682) – Sketchbook, Charlotte’s Shade Paper (35684) – Sketchbook, Indigo Inspiration Paper (35686) – Sketchbook, Harper’s Hue Paper (35687) – Sketchbook; Other: 16x20 Canvas, Folk Art Paint, Silhouette Cameo
SOAK UP THE SUN by Heather Leopard
I created this layout focusing on a day at the beach on a recent trip to the Gulf Coast. I wanted to create a series of suns so I cut circles from various papers and then cut them up and made new circles of varying papers via paper piecing. I stitched over them and then bent some of the edges to give it dimension.
Supplies: Ventura Paper (35731) – Shoreline, Belmont Shore Paper (35736) – Shoreline, Carpinteria Paper (35721) – Shoreline, Vero Paper (35719) – Shoreline, Myrtle Paper (35725) – Shoreline, Cambria Paper (35726) – Shoreline, Manhattan Beach Paper (35740) – Shoreline, Pacific Beach Paper (35737) – Shoreline, Malibu Paper (35722) – Shoreline, Venice Paper (35734) – Shoreline, Sand Dollar (85585) – Bits
Who doesn’t love a refreshing snow cone treat on a hot day in the sun? This was created using a clear card. I knew I wanted to create two scenes – one on the inside to write a message and the other on the front of the card. They would need to work together to be visually appealing when the card is closed. I covered the inside with the blue paper and positioned the center of the circle behind the pinwheel on the front cover. I added a journaling spot and flat embellies to the inside. Then I layered paper, fussy cut elements, and the pinwheel over the front.
Supplies: Manhattan Beach Paper (35740) – Shoreline, Carpinteria Paper (35721) – Shoreline, Vero Paper (35719) – Shoreline, Seaside Pinwheels (85586) – Delights
CREATE ADVENTURE by Heather Leopard
Vacation adventures don’t have to include zip lining, airplanes, or water for that matter. This particular day, we had a staycation so we stayed and played with chalk. We created all sorts of themes but this one was a favorite. I sketched out a crown, wand, and frog and my daughter colored them in. We created this silly princess scene and had sooo much fun creating our own little adventure story.
Supplies: Veridian Wignette Paper (35676) – Amy Tangerine Sketchbook, Ivory Impression Paper (35677) – Sketchbook, Padma’s Pattern Oaoer (35673) – Sketchbook, Printed Chipboard Shapes (77290) – Bits, Flat-Top Fabric Brads (85578) – Elements, Paint (42242) – Remarks, Palette (42240) – Remarks Books, Layered Tags (77289) – Bits, Scene Glitter Foam (53340) – Thickers, Boardwalk Pool (53361) – Thickers
ALWAYS MY BABY by Heather Leopard
We were away on fall vacation when these candid pics were snapped of my daughter and I. She was snuggling up to me and my friend captured these moments. I just adore having such a snuggle bug.
Supplies: Padma's Pattern Paper (35673) – Sketchbook, Ivory Impression Paper (35677) – Sketchbook, Harper’s Hue Paper (35687) – Sketchbook, Paige’s Portraits Paper (35691) – Sketchbook, Paint Fabric Stickers (42242) – Remarks, Palette (42240) – Remarks, Layered Tags (77289) – Bits, Printed Chipboard Shapes (77290) – Sketchbook, Doodle (42243) – Remarks, Muse Woodgrain (53343) – Thickers

Wonderful projects, Heather!! I think my favorite TODAY is your Snow Cone card - being in 100 degree temps in Chicago I think made my choice easy! LOL!! Love the idea of a clear card front. Thanks for an eye(candy)-full of inspiration :)

Very good post. Made me realize I was totally wrong about this issue. I figure that one learns something new everyday.
