A Christmas Pop-up Card

Hey American Crafts fans, it’s Elsie back on the blog today with two festive and interactive cards you can create this holiday season!

These cards will definitely make a statement, but what’s even more awesome is that they will fit into standard sized envelopes so there’s no need to pay extra postage and get stuck in a long queue at the post office to be able to mail them easily!

First off, is my Santa stuck in a chimney card! I’ll leave the Silhouette ID number for the cut file I used for this card below, but essentially this card is a box with no base so it can collapse flat.

The card has two hinges inside the chimney which you can attach decorations to. You can use die-cuts or any other embellishments you like, but I used Santa’s legs and bag which came with the cut file because I love including a bit of humour on my cards!

I used stickers and die-cuts from the Sweater Weather collection to embellish. I especially love the gold foil wreath with the ‘Happy Winter’ phrase, which was the perfect piece to use as the sentiment for my card! I also used one of the ephemera pieces which has ‘to’ and ‘from’ written on it, perfect for adding my name and the recipients! I attached it to Santa’s bag with some thread for an extra bit of whimsy and secured it to the side of the chimney with a pop dot.

For the second card, I created a tri-fold card to create the pop-up effect. Again I’ll leave the Silhouette ID number below to the cut file I used below. If you don’t have a die-cutting machine these are easy enough to create without one, I’m just really bad at measuring things so my die-cutting machine is a bit of a lifesaver!

I wanted to create the look of an icy, wintery night, so I used the Dear Lizzy ‘Magical’ paper from the Stargazer collection. This paper works well with the Sweater Weather collection because it has a similar light pink colour which matches perfectly!

When this card is closed all you can see is the ice-skating polar bear, mountains and houses, but once the card is opened you can see another house and the cute bear die-cut. I love how fun and interactive this card is, and it’s so easy to customise!

A few other details: I used the gold foil chipboard stars from the co-ordinating thicker set to add some extra sparkle and whimsy to my night sky and I also used a red label from the sticker sheet so I would have space to write my message to the recipient which they will be able to see once they open the card!
