Hello there! It’s Meghann Andrew here, and I know that there is a plethora of gorgeous patterned paper in the American Crafts product lineup, but what if you want to create your own bespoke hand-lettered paper design? If you’re a perfectionist like me, you’d never be pleased with trying to achieve this look free-hand. So, when I found a beautiful photo in my favorites to scrap, I turned to the new Kelly Creates products to help me design the perfect patterned vellum to document it.
Creating this beautiful backdrop for my photo was simple and easy to customize just for my project! First, I began by choosing my favorite of the Kelly Creates acrylic traceable stamps. I also grabbed a sheet of the Kelly Creates 8-1/2” x 11” dotted paper, which helped me to keep my lines of words straight and even.
I chose three different phrases to stamp onto my paper: “Let Go,” “Choose Joy,” and “Life is Beautiful.” I stamped them over and over again with black ink to create a pattern, all the way down the sheet.
With vellum held in place using masking tape over my stamped page, I used the sky blue dream pen’s small brush tip to hand letter over the stamped words down the page. This was such a relaxing process, and I completely enjoyed the few minutes it took to complete this step, and even took the break to savor my afternoon coffee!
After my vellum page was complete, I grabbed a piece of the Vicki Boutin mixed media foundations paper and the Color Pop acrylic paints to create a soft, painted background for the vellum. Once that was dry, I attached my hand-lettered vellum to the top and sewed around the perimeter to keep it in place.
Once my background was complete, I went through my current AC collections to pull out products matching the blues and pinks in my photo. I had so much fun mixing and matching All the Good Things with Sunshine and Good Times, as well as Stargazer! When it came to adding my title, I didn’t want to cover up any more of my vellum background, so I added it directly to my photo, using stickers in the Kelly Creates journal accessory kit and All the Good Things black Thickers.
The journaling for this memory was added to an All the Good Things journaling tag and tucked in to the top of my photo. Next to it “the places we go” tag was perfect for adding the location and date. The little birds from the Sunshine and Good Times collection were the perfect colorway to go with this layout!
This layout didn’t need much more embellishment, but I added a few stickers from the Amy Tangerine and Vicki Boutin sticker books to draw your eye toward my photo, and a story of a perfect day seeing new places with my family.
If you’re afraid of hand lettering, these Kelly Creates products are the perfect way to give this technique a try on your next layout! With the acrylic traceable stamps, a sheet of vellum and a Dream pen, you can create a customizable background for any story you want to tell!
