Hello, American Crafts fans! It’s Bea here and I’m so excited that we’re celebrating Mother’s Day here on the AC blog! Send a little extra love your mom's way this year with a meaningful Mother's Day mini album. Why? Well, nothing says "I love you" more than adding a personal touch to your mom’s favorite photos by creating an album she can keep forever.
My mom loves mixed media effects and bright colors, so I chose the gorgeous Color Kaleidoscope collection by Vicki Boutin to use for my album.
To start, I trimmed patterned and mixed media papers into 5.5x5.5” to create the pages. I attached the papers using two bookbinding rings. To create the cover, I chose a mixed media paper as my background, and placed a paper doily with a ‘love you’ sticker to the center. Then, I created a cluster using mostly ephemera pieces and stickers, placing them under the title.
I decided to add an extra vellum page to the first pair of pages. To do this, I trimmed vellum into 4”x5.5". Then, I cut a large doily in half and glued one half on the left edge of the vellum page. I layered a journaling card and washi tapes behind the paper doily. On the right page, I added hand stitched details to the cluster by stitching leaves around the flowers.
To create the rainbow circle on the next page, I fussy cut a bunch of hearts from the 6”x9” patterned paper, and arranged the hearts in a circle. Then, I machine stitched the hearts to the background and placed a sentiment sticker to the center.
On the next page, I used stamp and embossing powders to create white pattern to the colorful background.
Here are more samples from my mini album. I embellished the pages with ephemera pieces, stickers or die cut pieces. I enjoyed so much playing with the gorgeous, colorful papers, and it was so easy to mixed and match them with the embellishments.
